The weather was apparently improving, but it was a false
dawn and the rest of our sea day across the Bay of Biscay was a lively affair. We had had a modest breakfast in our room and
decided that our plan to have a second breakfast in the Dining Room was
out. We existed for most of the morning
and eventually ventured out for a late snack lunch. That managed to stay down, although we saw
some who weren’t so successful in maintaining their equilibrium.
This was our first formal night and conditions were changing
by then. The insidious swell we had
suffered from all night and day had now subsided, only to give way to a gale
force wind which gave the ship a permanent lean to the right. The captain described this phenomenon as like
having one leg longer than the other and it was certainly a challenge to try to
do ballroom and Latin dancing in the small floor are that is the Atrium with lots
of other couples all around and then finding that the floor isn’t where it was
when you last lifted your foot up!
